10 Days to Windows 10

Exciting news - Windows 10 implemented a new browser into their software! Microsoft Edge is said to replace Internet Explorer, although it will still be available. Microsoft Edge has a cleaner user interface, it's faster, and it's meant to be used in full screen mode. Edge features a new layout option called Reading View. Reading View removes all pictures and extra, unnecessary data showing you just the text so it's easier to read. Just click the icon again and the view goes back to the regular page.

Windows also developed easy sharing functionality within the Edge browser. An icon in the top menu bar allows users to quickly share content or pages with others and even yourself. You can export content to OneNote and then add a message to remind yourself why you were sharing it! Similar to this, Edge allows you to annotate websites. Using the "make a web note" button within Edge browser, you can highlight certain information on the page to draw your attention to a certain area on the page. Then you can share that page with anyone, making data sharing just that much more efficient. So cool, Microsoft.

10 Days to Windows 10

Windows Update is very helpful with keeping your system up to date, without the hassle. Under Settings > Update and Security, you can easily schedule an update for installment, and pick what day and time you prefer your computer to update. Windows Update is an old/new feature, meaning you can still access old backups for data.

A surprising update is within Command Prompt, which hasn't been updated in years. Text is now a TrueType font to keep it from pixelating. It also allows for word wrapping so that text is reflowed to fit when resizing the window. Last but not least, a new Notification System has been built into the Windows 10 Action Center. Windows 10 Notifications provides a central location for users to see system events such as Windows Update, new e-mail and Xbox Live chat notifications among others.

10 Days to Windows 10

Windows 10 has new features that are extremely easy to use, including the control panel on a touch screen device. The control panel is a touch enabled interface with big icons that are all in one place so you can be less reliant on the old desktop.  The touch screen has several specialized gestures including voice search with Cortana, which we discussed on day 4. You can access the Action Center by swiping right, where you will find Quick Access, and the new Task View is located opposite if you swipe left.

Along with easily accessed items, Windows 10 utilizes DPI Scaling, which means high resolution screens are not an issue no matter your device because your computer recognizes the resolution and scales items correctly with zero pixelation. Last but not least, Microsoft designed accommodations for your mobile phone. Their new universal app is the same on your desktop, tablet and mobile device.
