Our Instructors

At New Horizons, we pride ourselves on hiring and retaining the most qualified and experienced instructors in the industry. All of our instructors are certified professionals in their respective subjects. Our instructors typically have 15 or more years of real-world experience working for leading companies, allowing them to apply current trends and relevant examples to help students relate to the course material and retain more information.

The student experience is our top priority and is the key to our continued student success following program completion. We measure students' satisfaction with instructors' performance in every class offered by Alliance. We have administered countless class evaluations to gather this performance information. Based on thousands of evaluations, Alliance takes great pride in reporting our instructors score an average approval rating of 8.54 on a 9 point scale, higher than any other training provider in the industry.

Tim Keesling

Tim has returned to New Horizons after completing a tour at one of the world's leading Human Resource Management software firms. He served as System Administrator and Network Administrator and won awards for his outstanding work in server automation and the company’s highest award for his customer-oriented network solutions. Tim was a New Horizons Instructor with the Gainesville, FL center, the year the center won Global Center of the Year.

Ronald Wong

Instructor Ronald Wong

For the past 20 years, Ronnie has been a minister, diesel mechanic and high school teacher and dorm parent as well ask working with computers. In 2005, he was hired at New Horizons as an Applications Instructor where he taught Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Office Project, Crystal Reports and Project Management Fundamentals. As a Technical Instructor, he teaches Microsoft classes, CompTIA and Cisco Classes. He is also one of the network admin at the Center.

Josef King


Joe worked at the New Horizons Center in Baltimore, MD for just under 8 years.  This was his first “real job” out of college.  During his time at the Baltimore center he served as Instructor, Operations Manager, Webmaster, Marketing Manager, and Facilities Manager.  “The one thing I haven’t done is pick up the phone and sell the classes.

Jay Burkey

Instrutor Jay Burkey

Jay started his I.T. career in 1998 at a small organization as a help desk technician. He then transitioned to System Administrator in 1999. In 2003 he transferred to another organization as Director of I.T. before finding his calling as a trainer for New Horizons. He has worked at multiple locations within the New Horizons network before falling in love with the Pensacola location.

Dana Gardner

For more than 26 years, Dana has been in the IT Industry as a Field Service Engineer, Project Manager, Helpdesk Manager, and Systems Analyst.  For 14 Years, she has taught A+, NET+ and Cisco IT Essentials and Cisco Discovery in the NC Public School System at the high school level.

Sandy Stevenson

Sandy started in the computer industry in 1984, working for United States Computer Corporation. Her realm of responsibilities included design, analysis, programming, testing, implementation and training and support for custom systems and software for the credit and collection industry. While working for USC, she gained a very strong knowledge of COBOL and the Unix operating system. One of Sandy’s specialties is programming and performing tape-to-tape data conversions.

Mike Magara

Mike has been teaching courses for New Horizons for over 13 years at New Horizons Mechanicsburg. Mike has also taught courses in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Syracuse, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina and Albany, New York. Mike specializes in computer networking, security and computer forensics.

Armando Sepulveda

Armando was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and moved to Florida shortly after High School. He became a Correctional Office and Sheriffs Deputy  for the State of Florida. After four years of Law Enforcement he started in the IT field and has spent the last 18 years enjoying learning and teaching in many areas that Technology has to offer.

Andy Burroughs

Andy has been an instructor since 2011 teaching technical and applications courses. Andy worked in the chemical testing and manufacturing field as a supervisor. Andy worked as a supervisor over shipping receiving safety and was a Six Sigma lead at distribution facility. Andy is a trainer for several non-profits in their use of applications and technology. Andy currently holds the position Vice President of a Toastmasters club that has achieved distinguished status or higher 4 consecutive years and was President when the club was presidents distinguished.

Education: Dalton State College Education Major BS in Geography with a focus in Geographic Information Systems from Jacksonville State University


James Day

James is a Chattanooga native. His experience includes being the Head Datacenter Administrator over 3 Enterprise level datacenters, as well as being the Imaging Specialist for the Department of Defense migration to Windows 7 from Vista at Fort Knox. James was previously the Windows Systems Administrator for TennCare.

Michele MacMillen

Michele has several years of IT Help Desk experience supporting and teaching adults in a business environment in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Windows, mobile devices, and general computer maintenance.

Jeanina Sargent

Instructor Jeanina Sargent

Jeanina Sargent began her career as a Programmer/Analyst for Litton Guidance and Controls in Southern California. After spending 12 years in the Aerospace and Banking Industry, Jeanina returned to York, PA as a Database Specialist for a local Non-Profit Organization. Along the way, Jeanina discovered that she had a passion for teaching. Jeanina started consulting with New Horizons in 2010, then became a fulltime Instructor in 2014.

Anthony Lucas

Instructor Anthony Lucas

Prior to becoming an Instructor at New Horizons, Anthony worked for Vartan Enterprises as a Network Technician and Webmaster.

El'tis Capel

El`tis worked in the Fashion Industry in New York as a Designer for many years. She then gained experience as a Wall Street Analyst, which helped her transition nicely once she relocated to Tennessee to become a trainer. She has over 22 years of teaching experience and has worked for over 25 years on various Regional Building Projects, as well.

Don Whitsett

Having had an interest in computers, built his own and taught himself several programs, he was pleased to be able to join New Horizons. During the last 7+ years with New Horizons he has obtained the Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook specialist certifications, and is completing the Expert and Masters certifications. In addition, he has taught New Horizons classes for 33 other programs/subjects from Microsoft, Adobe, SAP (Crystal Reports), Intuit, and numerous Business Skill courses.

Education: UNC Greensboro: Degrees in Psychology, Communications (concentration in Film and Television) and Philosophy



Cherokee Boose

Cherokee is a Florida native and has been interested in computers from an early age. In high school, she spent countless hours working in the Journalism room which lead her to studying Graphic Design. Cherokee ended up working for a newspaper but knew there was more she wanted to accomplish. She was yearning for a position where she could be challenged and incorporate her real life experiences into troubleshooting. Cherokee decided to go back to school and dive deeper into IT. She started working as a computer technician and then transitioned into a Network Administrator.

Don McCune

Don McCune was born in Columbus, Ohio but has lived in Florida since he was 5. He has held a variety of jobs in the past, including working as a truck driver and a high school football official for over 10 years. He decided it was time for a career change and came into New Horizons as a student. After obtaining a number of certifications, he was able to progress his career into full time Instructor.

Ashley Wimberly

Ashley began his career with New Horizons of Birmingham with the position of Evening Mentor in August of 2014. Shortly after, he was promoted to Applications Instructor and has since received his MOS certifications. Just recently, Ashley received his degree in Christian Ministry with his area of focus being Marketplace Leadership. “Teaching has become a true passion of mine; I receive true fulfillment from helping others succeed.”

Angie Ocheltree

Instructor Angie Ocheltree

Angie has worked in adult education for over twenty years. Her experience ranges from running training departments to conducting needs analysis and authorizing courseware. She has delivered hundreds of classes in both a traditional classroom setting and via the Internet. She specializes in Microsoft Office and SharePoint classes. Angie joined New Horizons in 2009 as an Applications Instructor. She became a Master Applications Instructor in 2015.

Robert Demastus Sr

Instructor Robert Demastus Sr

Robert has several years of experience in a network operations center monitoring, maintaining and fixing servers, operating systems, network configurations, software applications and hardware. Robert also served in the military where he gained valuable skills in instructing and teaching fellow soldiers.

Steve Fenick

Instructor Steve Fenick

Steve joined the New Horizons team in 2007 as an applications trainer, and currently serves as Training Manager for both the Richmond and Washington D.C. locations. His lifelong love of computers has helped him to enjoy great success as both an applications and technical trainer, having placed among the top 10 trainers worldwide in student evaluation scores on numerous occasions.

Prior to coming to New Horizons, Steve taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, and performed throughout the United States and Europe as a trumpet player with the United States Army. He is also a member of Mensa International. Steve’s areas of expertise include Cisco and F5 networking, Windows server and client operating systems, SharePoint, and the Microsoft Office suite (2003, 2007, 2010, and 2013).

Valerie Taylor

Instructor Valerie Taylor

Valerie is an award winning, certified Applications Instructor, specializing in Microsoft® Office. She also teaches Adobe® Acrobat, SharePoint, Project Management Fundamentals, Project Teams and a variety of Business Skills topics. She’s held prior corporate positions in management and leadership training and meeting facilitation, marketing, management, public relations and sales with a consistent focus on customer service and satisfaction. Before joining New Horizons, she operated her own business as a certified life coach with specialties in health and dream coaching.

Michael Beach

Instructor Michael Beach

Michael’s first computer was a Commodore VIC 20! He has been working with office productivity software and devices since taking courses at New Horizons in the early 1990’s. From building spreadsheets and presentations to repairing computers and maintaining networks, Michael has a wide range of experiences to help students grasp the concepts behind the actions. Michael is currently a chaplain in the US Army Reserve and has served for over 10 years.

Prior to joining New Horizons Michael worked with an independent insurance brokerage. Michael’s previous work experiences include automating and running three small town radio stations and  working for a nuclear services company. He also served several years as a hospice chaplain and pastor

Jim Buckner

Instructor Jim Buckner

Jim Buckner has been in IT education at the corporate and college levels for the past eighteen years. Jim began with New Horizons in 2009 where he specializes in  teaching the CompTIA and Computer Security courses and consistently receives high marks on student surveys and has been recognized multiple times as one of New Horizons top instructors. Jim also holds a BA degree with a Major in Finance from Georgia Southern University and a MS degree in Network Security from Capitol College in Laurel MD.

Sherrie Butterfield

Instructor Sherrie Butterfield

Sherrie started her IT career at America Online in 1995. She was quickly promoted to the training department where she continued for the next five years and perfected her skills as a technical trainer. After leaving AOL, Sherrie stayed in the training field working for Beeline, where she provided onsite training during initial roll outs and major upgrades. She also provided online training via Web-Ex and conference calls and wrote training and reference manuals. Sherrie joined New Horizons in 2004 teaching applications classes as well as HTML, Web Design, CompTIA A+ and all Adobe suite classes. Sherrie holds two bachelor’s degrees in Art and English from the University of North Florida.

Mike Goodman

Instructor Mike Goodman

Mike started working as a Technology Instructor in 2001 for CompUSA. There he obtained his Microsoft Office Master Training Specialist Certification. In 2006, Mike was given the #1 Instructor in Florida award.

Later Mike took an adjunct teaching position at Florida College of Jacksonville where he was the first instructor to be able to teach the entire suite of Microsoft Office 2013 products. Mike then joined New Horizons as the Training Supervisor and teaches Microsoft Office classes as well as ITIL, QuickBooks, SharePoint 2013 and SQL Querying.

Craig Kemery

Instructor Craig Kemery

Over 20 years’ demonstrated success in Workforce Development, Human Resources, Organizational Development, and Curriculum Development and Delivery. Zealous when it comes to assessing the situation and developing/delivering practical processes and systems needed for employees to perform at their highest levels. Craig teaches all versions of the Microsoft  Office classes and uses the Train the Trainer Program to enhance his classroom management skills. Craig also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from The University of North Florida.

Andrew Yurick

Instructor Andrew Yurick

Andrew has over 15 years of IT experience.  Andrew began his career at America Online as a Help Desk Customer Care Consultant. After leaving AOL, Andrew worked as a Network Administrator and Trainer where he maintained onsite networks, consulted with clients for various technologies and supervised and managed other instructors. Andrew instructs students in Microsoft Technologies including SharePoint and Server classes. He also teaches Cisco courses and is our Sr. Technical Instructor.

Thomas Harrell

Instructor Thomas Harrell

Thomas’ professional experience spans from working on a hand-selected, newly formed Quality Assurance team in the auto insurance industry as a QA Analyst to changing the lives of foster care youth as a Community Liaison and workshop leader - with various professional touch points in between.

In addition to teaching the core Microsoft office suite of applications, Thomas also finds the sweet spot between application usage and soft skills training. Delivering classes like Surviving Public Speaking Using PowerPoint, Effective Time Management Using Outlook as well as Project Management Fundamentals and ITIL Foundation. Thomas Harrell is an award winning Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) with a passion for imparting knowledge that positively impacts learners.

Bill Guzman

Instructor Bill Guzman

Bill is the former President and CEO of The Center for Desktop Publishing, Inc. in Garden City, NY, and has been designing, creating and implementing custom courseware, web applications, and training since 1992.

In addition to teaching more than thirty applications and programming languages, Bill holds numerous certifications from Adobe and Microsoft, including MS Project Server and SharePoint Server. Bill Guzman is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and award winning Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) with over 23 years of experience teaching computer applications and programming languages.

Tom Allen

Instructor Tom Allen

Tom is a Senior Applications Instructor. He is a Microsoft Certified Trainer with almost two decades of experience in the technology training industry. Tom has taught and consulted for a wide range of organizations throughout the eastern US, and has experience in traditional classroom training, virtual classroom training, and content development.

Tom holds certifications covering a broad range of Microsoft desktop applications, and has vast experience teaching anything from Microsoft Office 365 collaboration technologies, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Project, and Visio (among other Microsoft technologies), all the way through to Crystal Reports and Adobe applications. He specializes in creating an inviting environment that allows adult learners to bring real world examples into the conversation. Tom’s style is encouraging, positive, and makes difficult concepts easy to understand.

Steve Short

Instructor Steve Short

Steve is a Senior Technical Instructor with almost two decades of experience in adult education, IT administration, and IT consulting. He holds a number of technology and instructor certifications from multiple vendors. He has extensive knowledge and experience with all versions of Microsoft client and server operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, and a wide array of Microsoft Server products. He holds several CompTIA lifetime certifications and is an expert in routing and switching technologies, and is a Cisco Certified Systems Instructor who holds the CCNA Routing & Switching certification.

Steve delivers classes on advanced topics within IT security (including penetration testing and incident response), Google Cloud technologies, and Microsoft desktop applications like Excel and Outlook, and is certified by Logical Operations as a Modern Classroom Certified Trainer (MCCT).

Gary Leenhouts

Instructor Gary Leenhouts

Gary is a Business Technology Instructor and an IBM Certified Instructor. He is also a Microsoft Certified Trainer who holds several Office 2013 MOS certifications, and Logical Operations Modern Classroom Certified Trainer with 19 years of experience in the technology training industry. He has taught throughout the U.S. and Canada in a variety of settings from Federal government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, health care and non-profit. He has experience in classroom training, virtual classroom training, and content development. Gary has a delivery technique that can meet the needs of the beginner or the advanced learner, and brings his love of adult education and technology into every classroom, creating a comfortable atmosphere for learning and practical application of technical skills to the real world.

Jeanie Sanders

Instructor Jeanie Sanders

Jeanie is a Credentialed Trainer. She is a Microsoft Certified Trainer, CompTIA Technical Trainer, and an Epic Credentialed Trainer with over 20 years of experience. Her passion for understanding how people learn fuels her desire to be in the classroom. Jeanie’s comprehensive approach to teaching incorporates both digital and traditional learning tools. This style of teaching ensures her students are able to retain and apply their newly found skills both inside and outside of the classroom. Jeanie teaches classes on a wide variety of topics ranging from office productivity training to network operating system administration.

She is always looking to expand her repertoire, and with experience in various sales implementation efforts, she is now responsible for training clients on various CRM products. Jeanie is responsible for delivering the Logical Operations Modern Classroom Certified Trainer exam preparation courses for Logical Operations and their partners worldwide (which includes training our very own New Horizons at Logical Operations trainers on MCCT standards).

Chuck Moore

Chuck currently serves as IT Supervisor and Instructor at New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Richmond, VA. He has over 9 years experience as an instructor and more than 14 years in Information Technology. He has also served as a Senior Graphics Designer for 8 years with Circuit City Corporation. In 2009, he was chosen to be part of the Richmond FBI Citizens Academy. Chuck’s areas of expertise include the Microsoft Office Suite (2003, 2007, 2010, and 2013), the Adobe Master Collection (CS through CC), Windows (XP, Vista, 7 and 8), and Windows Server 2003 and 2008.

Kathryn Compton

Passionate about sharing her knowledge of working smarter instead of harder, Kathryn is proud to be a part of the New Horizons team. Her background is diverse and includes project coordination, quality administration, business process management,  database design and management. Her strengths are displayed best in working with others, particularly around Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, Power Point and Access. Being a lifetime learner, she is also eager to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from her colleagues and expand her personal horizons with the wealth of information available in her position.

Melissa Faulkner

Having a diverse professional background, Melissa excels in positions that require a multi-faceted perspective. She has experience in areas inclusive of communications, criminal justice & mediation. Having joined the New Horizons Richmond team in 2013, she has had the opportunity to immerse herself in the facilitation of professional development classes as well as Microsoft Office applications.

Melissa enjoys being challenged with new opportunities & believes that the best classes taught occur when both the facilitator & the student learn from each other. When possible, she prefers a loosely Socratic approach to education wherein the student leads themselves to the answers. She has enjoyed learning from her colleagues and actively pursues intellectual gain.

Bill King

Bill King has more than 30 years of experience as a trainer, and has been with New Horizons Computer Learning Center for more than 12 years. He has spent the last 17 years teaching courses on Microsoft products, including Exchange Server, Windows, Windows Server, and System Center Configuration Manager. He has also taught CompTIA certification courses for more than 12 years, including A+, Network+, and Security+.

Adam Gordon

With over 30 years of experience as both an educator and IT professional, Adam holds over 170 Professional IT Certifications. He is the author of several books and has achieved many awards, including EC-Council Instructor of Excellence for 2006-07 and Top Technical Instructor Worldwide, 2002-2003. Adam holds his Bachelors Degree in International Relations and his Masters Degree in International Political Affairs from Florida International University. Adam currently enables New Horizons’ largest customers to learn to leverage their portfolio of hardware, software, and services in order to maximize the success of their IT systems and processes.

He is has vast experience directing complex projects and has been on the front line of protecting and securing networks and systems for the Army as well as numerous Fortune 500 companies. Richard has managed some of the world’s largest Cisco and Microsoft IT academies and supported multifaceted systems.

Dale

Dale is one of New Horizons’ most requested technical instructors. He is a high-demand MCT and project consultants. He trains and consults throughout the worldwide New Horizons network. He has been a Microsoft Certified Trainer since 1998. Dale takes great pride in helping students comprehend and simplify complex IT concepts. Dale has a strong passion for the information he teaches. His extensive background in IT management compliments his training skills to ensure concepts and teachings are grounded for real life application. It is a personal priority of Dale's, to maintain personal knowledge and understanding of current trends in training, technology and applications.

Along with his 17 years of experience as a Microsoft Certified Trainer, Dale also has an additional 7 years of Senior IT Management experience. Dale worked as a CTO for a popular ISP provider and a Senior Manager for a national hardware supplier.
